Last Month’s Update From Tusayan Mayor Clarinda Vail

July 11, 2021

Great Days Ahead For Tusayan!

Here is a new update on what I have been working on this past month. As always, I want and welcome your questions and request about the things I can do for you!

*A HUGE THANK YOU to all with the town, chamber, bands, UAV Pro drone company, volunteers and participants that made the 4th of July events a great success. Many hands make lighter work for all and with the theme of this year's parade being: United We Stand, Our Grand Community I certainly saw it on full display. The work from local people, locals that grew up here and have moved but come back for this event and friends/family of locals was very special and you all help make our Community Grand.  Jim and Lisa Coffey were the Parade's Grand Marshals. Jim and Lisa worked in and around Tusayan for many years, raised their family here and served our community in so many ways. They are a shining example of people that have helped make the GC/Tusayan Community Grand!

*I am thrilled The Town of Tusayan and The Tusayan Fire District (TFD) have completed the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) to secure funds to TFD for, at least, the next five years. TFD does an amazing job in providing for and protecting our community. We hope the IGA helps TFD to recruit and retain more staff and to continue to provide high-quality safety for our community, guests and firefighters.

*It’s budget time for the town! On Wednesday, July 14th at 3:00pm the Town of Tusayan will have a public hearing regarding the fiscal year 2021-2022 budget. Direct payments to residents/employees continue to be a priority for me. The United States Government has given stimulus money and I remain committed to this idea and will be working with my colleagues to hopefully make it happen. I will continue to work on this possibility and hope the community will attend the public hearing in person or via zoom to express their thoughts to the council.

*I strongly believe we should return much of our excess taxpayer money to you! It has been a trying year for everyone which is why I believe you can put excess money to the best use, not the government. We have more than enough to be an efficient, effective local government for you.

*Last month we announced the completion of the Community Garden, thanks to the help of our volunteers of all ages that participated. Look at what our community work has created. It has been fantastic to see the garden beds getting used and I thank all that did, and continue to, make it happen. It is a nice offering to have in Tusayan and I could see that the town may need more in the near future!

*The Coconino County Health & Human Services is offering a FREE series of six gardening lessons for adults at the Tusayan Sports Complex to continue promoting gardening and increase access to healthy foods in Coconino County. Reserve your spot for the remaining sessions on July 16th, July 23rd and July 30th with Sharon Sifling at 928-679-7257 or email ssifling@coconino.az.gov.
