May Update From Tusayan Mayor Clarinda Vail

May 3, 2021

For EVERYONE in Tusayan!

Here is an update on what I have been working on this past month. As always, I want and welcome your questions and requests about the things I can do for you!

*I am most excited to report that I have been fully vaccinated! I would like to say thanks locally to North Country Healthcare, to Coconino County, FEMA and the Arizona National Guard that staffed the Fort Tuthill Vaccination site. I was able to preschedule a date and time there. Even with lots of snow and cold, FEMA and National Guard Troops from Phoenix were there serving our county's residents. Thanks to everyone that is, and has, helped put vaccine shots in the arms of our community members. We are safer and healthier as a result.

*80 People were vaccinated this week in Tusayan via the vaccinate site that Tusayan Fire District got set up. Thank you and great job T.F.D.!

*The town has/is upgrading its financial processes. The town has purchased, and is now using, new accounting software (Clerkbooks) and has hired a professional budget preparer. A huge thank you to staff and council member Becky Wirth for ALL of their important work towards those improvements.

*We have had great meetings in the last month regarding the South Rim- Tusayan Multimodal Transportation Plan and have some short- and long-term items we are working on. The summary is the attachment, and the FULL plan can be found at this NPS link nps.gov. Please so review the plan and give us feedback as we are looking for all ideas to help solve the variety of issues that come with long lines at the gate. (Though it is great to have many travelers here again and we don't anticipate the long line again until around Memorial Day.)

*The 4th of July Parade and events will be happening this year too! The Town of Tusayan has hired a company to do a drone show! It should be an extra special 4th of July here and we are all looking forward to the events of the day and getting back to more normal times.

*Another exciting announcement for this month is that the Tusayan Sports Complex is getting a new addition with a Community Garden that will have approximately 20 garden beds for locals to plant.  We are having a Community Garden Volunteer Day on May 14, 9 AM-4 PM. The flyer is attached and please call or email Jill Goodman at 928-638-9909 tusayanasst@tusayan-az.gov to add your name to the volunteer list.

*Thank you to all those who are liking my Facebook page. It is and will be a great source of community updates moving forward. If you have not already visited my page, please visit www.facebook.com/TusayanMayor and check it out. And REMEMBER to encourage your friends and neighbors to follow and like my social media.

*I would encourage Tusayan residents to attend our town council meetings especially now that they are accessible online. I will work hard to make sure that they continue to be online and interactive after the current COVID crisis is over.

*Never hesitate to contact me – about anything – at Clarinda.Vail@tusayan-az.gov or at 928-637-8912. I am here to serve you, always, for things big or small that can help your quality of life!

There is a lot of great work to be done. We will keep improving Tusayan together! Thank you.
