Tusayan Pursuing Direct Aid To Residents
June 16, 2021
Tusayan is applying to the State of Arizona to receive American Rescue Plan Act Funds and residents could directly benefit. Tusayan could receive as much as $190,000 from the COVID related federal assistance program.
Tusayan would be able to utilize these funds for five major categories. Mayor Clarinda Vail is focusing on the category that addresses negative impacts to households. That means the money could go directly to residents. Because this involves federal funds, it may be easier to get that money directly to individuals.
Mayor Vail has been exploring ways to get town funds directly to residents and the topic was discussed at a recent council retreat. “We know that there have been some comments made not so favorably by the League (of Cities and Towns) that I am still willing to take on. The federal government and others are giving money back to individuals and I don’t see why the Town cannot.”
Vail says there is no controversy associated with federal funds.
