Home Rule Election To Take Place In November

May 29, 2024

The Town of Tusayan is making plans to place the Home Rule Option on the November ballot. That option is needed to give the town the freedom to set a budget without state-imposed spending limits. Without the Home Rule Option, Tusayan’s spending limit would be $1.8 million. In a good year, Tusayan typically generates $4.8 million in sales tax revenue. Home rule has nothing to do with raising taxes or issuing bonds.

In other Town Council news, members received an update from Grand Canton Airport Manager Warren Smith about the planned closure of the main runway. This will take place from July to September 2025 and would not impact any helicopter operations. Smith says there will be additional outreach to Tusayan which will include a virtual community meeting sometime this July.
