Voters Approved Measure That Gives Tusayan The Freedom To Set Its Own Expenditure Limit
November 7, 2024
In what can be described as a vote of confidence for Tusayan’s Mayor and Council, voters have said yes to Proposition 485. The measure gives Tusayan’s Mayor and Council the ability to set alternative spending limits instead of limits imposed by the State of Arizona. The vote was 74 to 47, (61% to 39%) according to the Coconino County Recorder’s Office. Mayor Clarinda Vail said, "We are very excited that the Home Rule Proposition passed. With it, we can continue to decide what level of services are best for our town. I would like to say thank you to Tusayan Voters for your confidence in our town council by passing it."
In the race for Coconino County District One Supervisor, incumbent Patrice Horstman beat challenger Larry Freeman Schug 68% to 32%. Tusayan is in District One.
The only countywide contested race was Coconino County Recorder. Aubrey Sonderegger defeated Bob Thorpe 60% to 40%.
There were five open seats on the Grand Canyon School Board and five candidates ran unopposed. They are Ashley Guevar, Sena Stiles, Jimelia Talasyousiea, Diana Wadsworth, and Cassidy Wolf Gibson.
