Tusayan Sets Priorities

The Town of Tusayan’s plans for the rest of the year include emergency preparedness, tourism promotion, residential internet and more. The Town Council went over its list of priorities during its March 11th meeting. They  include:

Plan Long Term DMO Strategy (Tourism)
Execute New Residential Internet Program.
Five Year Financial Forecast
Secure Financing for Townhall Project (Sports Complex Masterplan)
Design Townhall Project
Veteran's Projects
School Projects
Complete General Plan
Increase Emergency Preparedness
Education/ On hand Supplies
Continue to Execute Programing , Day-to Day Functions, Grant Writing and Reporting.
Support Sister Agencies/Stakeholders

Mayor Clarinda Vail wants to see a specific emphasis regarding emergency preparedness especially as it relates to flooding and alerting the community.

Town Manager Charlie Hendrix says there is some degree of uncertainty related to any federal funding the Town may receive.

The Town also looked back on what was accomplished in 2024. It was a very busy year. The Town’s accomplishments included:

Awarded AZ Smart fund Grant and negotiated complicated IGA agreements ($2,359,300)
Finalized Sports Complex Masterplan
Negotiated and Purchased three properties
Finalized Sanitary District Road Project
Procured Services for and completed first draft of General Plan.
Completed Emergency Landscaping Project (including service sign renewal)
Completed Hwy 64 Striping Project with ADOT
Conducted Expenditure Limitation Election (& other local elections)
Complete After-Action Flood Improvement Plan.
Completed Permit and Purchase of MoquiCookout site.
Completed Permit and Phase I construction (AOT grant) Tusayan Forest Trails ($225,000 Received).
Procure Residential Internet Program (Finalize Negotiations start 2025)
Procure Demolition services for 7 mile lodge (Finalize Demolition start 2025)
Finalized and Procure Community Nurse Program
Negotiate Draft Contract with Coconino County Law Enforcement
New IT services Provider. Address IT Security Issues. Bring Broadband to Townhall
Bring Tusayan Food Pantry to Townhall (First Full Year)
Renew Several Small Grants, including AZ Complete Health (Youth Program) and APS.
