Tusayan Reaches Agreement With The Coconino County Sheriff's Office For Law Enforcement Services

May 28, 2025

The Town of Tusayan has renewed its law enforcement contract with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office for $374,000 a year, about $101,000 a year less than the previous contract.

Mayor Clarinda Vail said the lower costs reflects the fact that Tusayan has a lower percentage of service calls to Tusayan.

Vail added, "I am happy to say we are saving money but we remain  mindful of always wanting to improve response times in Tusayan."

According to the City Manager’s report, “The new contract includes significant improvements to the contractual agreement including remarkable cost savings and increased reporting requirements.”

In addition to standard law enforcement services the contract also includes special response units, mobile command post availability, search and rescue services, command level supervision including administrative oversight, and dispatch services.

If a full-time deputy is not living in and assigned to the Town of Tusayan, the Town gets 15% off its bill.

The new contract starts July first.
