News release: Wheels Up! Airport Reopened at 6 a.m. Today Phase 1 Done
August 11, 2025
Grand Canyon National Airport officially reopened at 6 a.m. on August 11 (on schedule!) following the successful completion of Phase 1 of its runway rehabilitation project.
The project, launched in mid-July, was designed to improve safety, extend the runway’s lifespan, and bring the facility into full compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards. Crews milled and repaved the runway, reconfigured the Taxiway A1 intersection, updated airport signage, and modified aircraft parking areas to enhance operational efficiency.
What’s Ahead: Phase 2 Scheduled to Begin September 10
Phase 2 will focus on finishing work, including grooving the runway surface and applying a second coat of pavement markings. This phase will require nightly runway closures from September 10 through September 29. Pilots and tenants are encouraged to plan accordingly, and the airport will issue regular updates as the date approaches.
Thanks to tenants, pilots, partners, and the surrounding community for their patience, cooperation and understanding throughout this main phase of construction.
