Tusayan Council Approves Rezoning for Proposed Snow Play Area

July 28, 2026

It would create an additional tourist attraction and provide winter recreation for local residents.

The Tusayan Town Council has approved a rezoning request for an outdoor recreational snow play area along State Route 64.

Mayor Clarinda Vail recused herself from the vote. The remaining four members of the Town Council approved the rezoning request at the July 16th Town Council meeting.

The application by Red Feather Properties sought to rezone three parcels along State Route 64 from a mix of General, Commercial General, Commercial Heavy and Planned Community zoning into a single Planned Community district.

Town staff said the unified zoning would support a cohesive commercial use for the properties, which is part of the Town of Tusayan General Plan 2024.

The plan would include an interim winter recreation facility featuring outdoor snow play and sledding, supported by a large parking area that could also accommodate off-season opportunities.
