Tusayan steps up visitor marketing amid Grand Canyon water disruptions

Tusayan is continuing to promote the community as a destination for Grand Canyon visitors, with particular emphasis on getting the word out that the area remains open despite water-related disruptions inside the national park.
Town Manager Greg Clifton told the Town Council on Oct. 13 that the town’s tourism marketing team has been busy communicating that message while also promoting local events.
The town is building a larger library of photos and videos for future advertising and social media. Clifton said two photographers and videographers had visited during the previous month, capturing material on the Greenway Trail and newly constructed single-track loop trails.
Council members also praised new trail signs installed by the Kaibab National Forest, saying they make recreational opportunities easier for visitors to find.
Vail supported efforts to reach a younger audience. The marketing team is working through “social media and demographics,” she said, calling the approach “a really good idea.”
Clifton said construction of additional trailhead infrastructure would depend on obtaining funding for a second phase, likely pushing that work into next year.
The marketing effort also includes the Grand Canyon Trail Marathon, Indigenous Peoples’ Day and the town’s holiday lighting celebration planned for Dec. 4.
