A Town With A Population of 500 is Poised To Spend more than $260,000 on Salaries

Tusayan’s budget is falling into place. Among the budget items is $9,000 a year to pay the Mayor and Council Members and ten grand a year to cover their technology costs.
The budget for fiscal year 13/14 also includes $150,000 a year to pay a Town Manager, $60,000 a year to pay a Town Clerk, $40,000 for financial services and $12,000 a year for part time staff.
These are costs that would not have arisen without incorporation. The salaries are just a fraction of the overall expense. There are attorney’s fees at $140,000, $360,000 for law enforcement.
The person who will be responsible for monitoring all of that cash has yet to be hired. At its April 17th meeting, the Town Council announced that they plan to interview a candidate for the vacant Town manager position in May.
Neither of the finalists selected by the council was selected earlier this year. One of those finalists, Brent Lewis, had been arrested for failure to pay alimony.
