Tusayan Council Catches Up On 4th of July Celebration, Court Services, and the General Plan

May 23, 2013

The days of fighting over camp fires seem to be over. The Tusayan Town Council on May 15th voted to give the Chamber of Commerce a temporary liquor license for the annual 4th of July celebration. The vote came with little discussion or debate at the May 15th Town Council meeting. No mention was made of the dust up over the camp fire that divided the town two years ago.

The council also decided to allow Williams Justice Court Services to serve as the official Justice Court for Tusayan. The cases are primarily misdemeanors.  To pay for this service any fines against defendants would go to the Williams Court instead of to the Town of Tusayan.

The Council also voted to accept the recommendations from a recent Town Hall for use in the Tusayan General Plan

Here are some words from the Town Hall used to best describe Tusayan

  • Scenic / quiet
  • Ecologically sustainable
  • Safe
  • Friendly
  • Community-oriented
  • Destination
  • Thriving community
  • Fun
  • Diverse
  • Aesthetic gateway / attractive
  • Green
  • Accepting
  • Welcoming / hospitable
  • Ecologically healthy / environmentally responsible

Nowhere does it mention being home to a massive project being pushed by Italian developers that would add three million square feet of commercial space and thousands of new homes.
