Man Vs. Machine Race Returning to Tusayan
December 7, 2014
They did it in 1991 and they want to do it again next year. Organizers are preparing for a September 26th race from Tusayan to Williams which will pit bicyclists against a steam engine train. In 1991 such a race was held and 300 participants showed up.
Next year organizers are hoping to greatly expand the concept and turn it into a weekend event which could also boost tourism. The staging area will be in Tusayan.
Rob Krombeen, who is also a local Justice of the Peace, made the pitch to the Tusayan Town Council December 3rd.
Krombeem is still waiting to get approval from ADOT. To make that happen he asked for a letter of support from the Town Council. The town gladly obliged.
