Broadband Study Moves Forward
November 29, 2015
Tusayan has authorized $63,000 to be spent to see how and if broadband can be brought from Williams to Tusayan and possibly beyond. The good news is the cable company ComNet has agreed to fund the study.
ComNet has told the Town Council its focus is serving rural communities such as Tusayan. Mayor Greg Bryan said, “It’s a pretty great commitment on behalf of ComNet.
While the study is free, bringing fiber optic cable to Tusayan could takes millions of dollars. The town hopes to save a few dollars by using railroad right of way and running part of the cable on the old utility poles along the tracks.
Meanwhile Councilman John Reuter said it's time to get moving on the plan and securing the easements, "I think it's time the Town composed a letter to the Grand Canyon Railroad."
